MISSION STATEMENT
Cynthia House of Refuge has as its primary goal the provision of transitional housing and rehabilitative support for men and women who suffered pain through Domestic Violence and Assault.
THE CONCEPT
Once an individual has made a quality decision and the commitment to abandon a lifestyle of ABUSE
Cynthia House of Refuge will provide a transitional home and safe living quarters for its clients.
Cynthia House of Refuge is an outreach program of Coming from the Heart Ministry; Inc. and all prospective residents go through an intake screening process. No prospective resident will be barred because of race, national origin, color, creed, age, handicap, or religious affiliation. When an individual is accepted as a resident in Cynthia House of Refuge, there is a 12-month maximum stay, the use of smoking, or drugs, or non-payment of program fees will result in immediate expulsion (NO EXCEPTIONS). That simple policy lies at the heart of what Cynthia House of Refuge is and what makes it work.
The day-to-day operation of Cynthia House of Refuge is governed through a “statement of policy” established by the Program Director of Coming from The Heart Ministry, Inc. and is strictly adhered to. At the heart of the system of operations is fairness assured by democratic procedures and responsibility delegated to members of the resident community. Democracy is the key element in the Cynthia House of Refuge system of operations both for practical and therapeutic reasons. This approach ensures that each resident readily understands the utilitarian aspects of deciding issues by a majority house vote.
Residents of Cynthia House of Refuge also benefit from a network of mentors and rehabilitative support from outside support groups to aid them in their transition to mainstream society. Cynthia House of Refuge provides democratically run, self-supported group housing and an operating framework tailor-made for the individual recovering from Domestic Violence and Assault. In addition, financial aid may be available for individual circumstances through Habitat for Humanity, Section 8 or VASH for Veterans.
In summation, the democratic nature of the therapeutic community within the house, the written system of operations, the responsibility delegated to each resident, the written statement of policy and oversight provided by ministry leaders all work together to promote recovery through the exercise of responsibility.
